These books (available for C, B-flat, E-flat, and bass clef instruments) are designed to provide instrumentalists of all ages and opportunity to play duets in a variety of jazz styles. A CD is included making it possible to play the duets alone. The book provides instructions for use with solo and duet practice with the CD, with live rhythm, and for a jazz workshop. Each piece has instructions on the format (which choruses and when) to play.

This book contains selected movements from unaccompanied sonatas, partitas, and suites by J.S. Bach. The works were originally written for violin, cello, or flute. This material has been adapted for clarinet because of its extraordinary potential value for developing phrasing, a sense of style, and overall musicianship. The editor has included an explanation of how these pieces were adapted for a wind instrument.

C210: Bach for the Clarinet Part I transcribed by Eric Simon. G. Schirmer, 1947, SS, 32 + 15 pages. The works by Bach in this book are for clarinet with piano accompaniment.  There is a separate clarinet part. The book contains ten Bach chorales, and ten movements selected from Bach works for keyboard (French Suite, Well-Tempered Clavier, etc.) or orchestra. Many of the pieces in this collection are less difficult than those in our other Bach books.

WW010: Johann Sebastian Bach - Six Unaccompanied Suites for Cello transcribed by Julie Ann Giacobassi. Fish Creek Music, SS, 60 pages. While this music was originally transcribed for English Horn by Julie Ann Giacobassi, the English Horn player in the San Francisco Symphony, it is also suitable for oboe, clarinet and saxophone. Julie reports, "All the guys in the clarinet section here (Dave Breeden, Luis Baez and Don Carroll) are using it personally and with their students." It is also recommended by Clark Fobes.

C716: Six Suites by J.S. Bach (for Cello BWV 1007-12) arranged for Clarinet by Ulysse Delecluse. Leduc, 1965, SS, 33 pages. This edition (compared to WW10) has the suites transposed so they will sound in concert key, has dynamic markings added and more articulation markings, has stops rendered as grace notes, and uses the lower range of the clarinet. The printing is about the same size, but WW10 generally has more space between lines.

B27: Bach Suites for Cello Solo Transcribed for the Bassoon by Arthur Weisberg. Arthur Weisberg, 2002, SB, 67 pages. This book contains the first five of Bach's Six Suites for Solo Cello, among the greatest music ever written for a solo instrument. (The sixth was not included because of extensive use of double stops and range issues.) The transcriber provides notes on tempos, grace notes, breaths, dynamics, vibrato, trills, and repeats. While this book is well printed and easy to read, there are some pasted-in corrections. Suggested for bass clarinetists who wish to work on bass clef. Many of the pieces are playable with a low e-flat instrument and virtually all with a low c bass clarinet.

C996: Clarinet Album: Eleven well-known pieces for clarinet and piano or two clarinets
arranged by Peter Hodgson. Peters, 2007, 32 + 24 pages and play along CD. This book is an unusual combination that includes both a second clarinet part and a piano accompaniment (not intended to be used together) plus a CD of the piano part. These pieces are at the intermediate and upper intermediate level and some of the second parts are more difficult than the melody part. The pieces are: Mendelssohn On Wings of Song and Spring Song, Brahms Lullaby, Schuman "Chopin" from Carnaval, Schubert Impromptu, Tchaikovsky Chanson Triste, Haydn Serenade (from String Quartet in F), Dvorak Largo (from the "New World" symphony), Boccherini Menuett (from the String Quartet), Mozart Menuett (from Symphony No. 39), and MacDowell To a Wild Rose.

There are 24 tunes (each with a brief explanation) grouped as Khosid'ls and other slowish tunes; Horas; and Freylakhs, Bulgars, and other up-tempo tunes. The book includes melody parts for C instruments (with parts for flute up an octave), b-flat, e-flat, and bass clef instruments. The included CD has each tune played as written and again with some traditional klezmer embellishments.

Songs 1, 2, and 5 are in the classical style, with the first two playable by better intermediate clarinetists (the last is fast and will require reasonably good technical skills). These are the first five clarinet sonatas of  twelve that concluded Lefevre's Methode de Clarinette published in 1802. They are progressive in nature with the first two at about a first year of high school level and the remaining three for more advanced high school students. Excellent material for exposure to the clarinet sonata. The CD below has the First, Third, and Fifth sonatas.
